Climate Pros SD matches you with licensed HVAC companies for AC repair. We do not run second-opinion trucks, set diagnostic fees, or publish what a capacitor “should” cost. If you are choosing who to call, start with who to call for AC repair and a CSLB license search.

Homeowner reviewing a suspicious HVAC repair quote with marked-up pricing

What are the patterns?

  1. A tiny advertised service call that grows after the tech is in the yard
  2. “Your refrigerant is low” with no leak found
  3. A compressor condemnation with no measurements
  4. “Your warranty requires you to use us”
  5. Parts swapped without a before-and-after reading
  6. R-22 panic without explaining EPA’s actual rule
  7. A “free look” that is really a replacement pitch
  8. Sign-today pressure
  9. A uniform and a truck, but no active C-20 on CSLB

How do the cheap service-call ads work?

Ask, before anyone drives: what is the diagnostic fee in dollars, what does it include, and does it apply toward the repair? Climate Pros SD does not set a “legitimate” county fee. If the answer changes after they arrive, you are negotiating a new contract, not “the original ad.” File facts with CSLB if you believe the company broke licensing or contract rules. We are not the police and we do not tell you to refuse to pay on our say-so.

Why is “you’re low on refrigerant” a tell?

Refrigerant is not a filter. If the charge is down, there is a leak or a prior undercharge. A recharge without finding the leak is a repeat call. See refrigerant leak signs.

What should a compressor diagnosis include?

Amp draw, temperatures or superheat/subcooling as the metering device requires, and whether the outdoor coil and airflow were already ruled out. “It is loud, replace it” is not a measurement.

Does a manufacturer warranty lock you to one company?

Manufacturer parts warranties usually name the registrant and the equipment, not Climate Pros SD, and not automatically the first person who knocked. Read the card. Labor warranties are the installing contractor’s. A sales line that you “must” use them for a cheap advertised visit is not CSLB law.

Why do unused parts show up on invoices?

Ask for the failed part’s rated versus measured value (capacitor microfarads, motor amps). If they will not write it down, get another licensed company. We can match a second company. We do not promise same-day or a free diagnostic.

What is the honest R-22 line?

EPA: R-22 production and import have been banned in the United States since January 1, 2020. Existing systems may still be serviced with recycled or previously produced refrigerant. That is not a requirement to replace today, and it is not a license to invent a recharge price on this site. See R-22 vs R-410A vs R-454B and the $5,000 rule.

What about “free estimates”?

Climate Pros SD does not advertise free estimates. A visit that is billed as free and then becomes a whole-system pitch is a sales process. Ask for the replacement scope in writing and compare it to a repair scope. See how to choose a contractor.

Why is “decide today” a tell?

Quotes can have a stated validity period. Pressure is not one. We do not promise that our match will be on site the same day.

How do you check the license?

HVAC work that is not casual, minor, or otherwise exempt under B&P §7048 generally needs a C-20. Search CSLB by number and business name. The number on the quote should match. Advertising as a contractor has its own rules.
