What changed

SDG&E’s rebate page now says the Golden State Rebates Program’s retail rebate offers have ended. An older product table still appears farther down that page, but homeowners should not treat those listed products or amounts as current offers.

Separate California programs have also reached funding limits. TECH Clean California says its single-family heat pump HVAC and heat pump water heater incentives have been fully reserved since November 14, 2025. The California Energy Commission says HEEHRA single-family rebates were fully reserved statewide as of February 24, 2026, and the program is not accepting new single-family income-verification requests.

What this means for a San Diego project

Do not subtract a rebate from your project budget based on an old table, advertisement, or verbal estimate. Before you order equipment or sign an installation agreement, check the official program page and ask for the program name, current status, eligibility rules, and reservation or approval status in writing.

Funding availability, income verification, contractor enrollment, equipment eligibility, reservation approval, and final payment are different steps. A program can have an eligible product list while having no funds available for a new project.

The federal Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit under Section 25C also does not apply to equipment placed in service in 2026. Qualifying 2025 installations may fall within the credit period, while property placed in service after December 31, 2025 does not. For qualifying property placed in service in 2025, the taxpayer must report the product’s Qualified Manufacturer Identification Number, or QMID, on the tax return.

Before you buy

  1. Check SDG&E’s current rebate page for an active offer that matches the exact product and purchase channel.
  2. Check TECH Clean California’s incentive status and the CEC HEEHRA status page.
  3. Get any required reservation approval before purchase or installation. HEEHRA is not retroactive.
  4. Keep the quote, model numbers, invoice, program approval, and payment records.
  5. Ask a tax professional about a qualifying 2025 installation. Do not include a 25C credit in the budget for a 2026 installation.

Next steps

If you are comparing heat pump options, review our heat pump service page and send us your project details. Climate Pros SD is a referral service. Ask the licensed contractor you choose to document equipment eligibility and any confirmed incentive separately from the installation price.
